Too light

Compared to the target specifications, these carcases are too light, although they have met the specifications for fat depth.

The cuts from these carcases will be smaller than the processor wants to satisfy their customers, although they are otherwise suitable.

  • The cattle may have met the specifications if they had been carried on longer, provided they did not get too fat.
  • Or they may be better suited to a lighter weight market if they were near the top end of the fat range.
  • For a feedlot or finishing program targeting this market, the cattle may have been too light at the start
  • To grow on to heavier weights, they would have needed to be at the low end of the fat depth range to ensure they don't get overfat.
